The Fog of Power: Justice, Faith, and the Illusion of the Vote

When Rhetoric Replaces Renewal

It has been disseminated by universities and other sources of local information—like the written media, periodically—the famous speech by Martin Luther King, "I Have a Dream." But I fear this has become a repetition of a verse used to make dogma, with the possibility of intentional wrongdoing. The dream has been reduced to a hook of a song, generated intelligence but directed to give power to the political and social debate of elite policy and decision-makers—unknowingly, and with an unfair collaboration of most of society and those who share all economic and executive power in Albania.

The dream has been shaped into a "want" for more objects, rather than one vision of renewal—a renewal needed in many occasions in history, one that can begin by putting light into the ignorance of most.

The Defenseless and the Powerful

A teenager, or a person without connections in the media industry, cannot defend himself publicly after six years of waiting for a trial while held in custody of authority. One needs power to do bad things—and a lot of voters have no power to do anything.

Teenagers are judged harshly for using illegal substances or alcohol, while ministers and officials claim they are not Germany or England (or the United States, or China) in economic matters—but apply London standards of justice when they themselves are accused by the justice system.

And what is prayer and religion without justice? Which god provides the freedom of religion, blames preceding communist rulers, and collaborates with corrupt, useless politicians who rank nothing on Planet Earth—politicians who failed their own professed model or example of transformation or renewal of any kind?

The Impotence of the Ballot

Votes seem impotent for solving economic or justice problems recognized by the world—and not invented by a few madmen. Votes will not buy oil or fix the economy by itself. And the votes that gave power to a few are invalid.

To do bad, one needs power. If he is not doing good, it means he is trying. Real wants need clarity—not the fog of media and propaganda.
